Amazon Prime is returning with the fifth and final season of The Boys on April 8. The season 4 finale was a shocker, to say the least: Homelander gains the loyalty of the new US President Steve Calhoun, while Butcher finally accepts that the supes can only be destroyed by one of their own.
Season five of The Boys comes with a massive budget and an extensive cast, consisting of new and recurring cast and characters. Supernatural fans are in for a treat this season as they’ll witness the legendary trio of Sam, Dean, and Castiel reunite for the first time since the end of the hit series!
Here are the lists of Prime’s The Boys season 5 new and recurring cast members, along with the characters they portray in the series.
New Cast Members
Mason Dye as Bombsight
The 31-year-old will make his debut in the Vought universe in the first episode of the fifth season. The character, possibly a secondary antagonist, is not an original character from the comics, and his powers remain unknown. But, he is believed to have operated alongside Soldier Boy in the 1950s, so aging slowly is surely one of the traits of his superpowers.
Before landing his role, Mason Dye was recognized for playing Jason Carver in the Netflix original series, Stranger Things. His notable works include Flowers in the Attic, Teen Wolf, and Finding Carter.
Daveed Diggs as Oh-Father
Oh-Father is a deeply religious supe with a possible alliance to Homelander. Although the character hasn’t appeared previously in The Boys, he was shown in a newspaper headlining the accusations of indecent behavior against minors.
Although the Snowpiercer actor’s character is the original organizer of the Christian Supe Group, Ezekiel is shown as the organizer in the series. Fans believe the change was justified due to the accusations against Oh-Father.
Jared Padalecki
Supernatural star Jared Padalecki will reunite with his former onscreen brother Jensen Ackles. At the moment, the show’s executives have not revealed his character, alongside whether he will be sharing screen with Soldier Boy.
Padalecki has shown excitement in collaborating with the showrunner Eric Kripke, who is also the creator of Supernatural. Let’s hope we get to see Sam and Dean Winchester sharing some screen time together.
Misha Collins
Collins is the second Supernatural actor to join the fifth season of The Boys. Renowned for previously playing the angel Castiel in The CW series, Misha’s character also remains under the veil. Some Redditors suggest Jack from Jupiter suits Collins’ personality, but the actor has yet to comment on his role.
The 51-year-old actor and industry veteran has enjoyed a steady career in Hollywood. He appeared in 146 episodes of Supernatural over a 12-year span. Additionally, he has also worked as a writer, director, and producer for shows like Divine: The Series, Roadfood, and Supernatural, respectively.
Recurring Cast
Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell
Hughie Campbell has come a long way in the series. After losing his girlfriend Robin to A-Train’s recklessness, he vows revenge against the supes and joins Billy Butcher’s gang.
Throughout the seasons, Hughie starts a relationship with Starlight/Annie January. Though he has found love again, Campbell’s struggle against the Seven persists.
Jack Quaid, the actor behind the character, is the son of actors Meg Ryan and Jack Quaid. Following his parents’ footsteps, he joined NYU Tisch School of the Arts, but dropped out to pursue an acting career. He went on to make his debut in The Hunger Games in 2012, and later returned as Marvel for a cameo in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The Boys gave him a breakthrough as he soon became a heartthrob among TV audiences. Back in July, he shared a bloodied Instagram snap after the shooting wrapped up for the final season. It will be exciting to see if The Boys finally succeed in bringing down Homelander.
Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
Karl Urban has personified Eomer in The Lord of the Rings, Bones in Star Trek, and Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok. He played honorable characters for most of his career. But, with The Boys, Urban got the chance to portray the darker character of Billy Butcher, a man filled with hate and a vow to destroy Homelander.
In the finale, we saw Billy Butcher drink the Compound V and become a supe with weird vines coming out of his body. Billy also killed Victoria Neuman, becoming the perfect fall guy for Sister Sage’s plan. Will he be able to save Ryan, or will he push Ryan to become the next Homelander?
Anthony Starr as Homelander
If there’s an actor born to play a character, it’s Anthony Starr as Homelander. The former Banshee star portrays a narcissistic superhero who doesn’t shy away from sacrificing civilians or even taking a life. Homelander is the main antagonist of The Boys and has been the target of Billy Butcher’s group since season one. Although the gang came close to killing him in the third season, they instead worked with him to defeat Soldier Boy.
Before landing the role of Homelander, Anthony Starr was popular for playing Lucas Hood in the Cinemax series Banshee. In the show, Starr is an ex-con who goes on to assume the identity of Sheriff Lucas Hood after the real Lucas Hood dies during a bar fight. The show ran for four seasons as one of the highest-rated original series on Cinemax.
Erin Moriarty as Starlight
Annie January, also known by her supe name Starlight, is the only supe to resemble a traditional superhero. She is well-intentioned, and all she ever wanted was to help others. However, as she joins the Seven, she learns the truth behind the superhero lifestyle, going through a severe identity crisis. Starlight eventually works to expose the corruption in Vought and even gets Deep demoted from the Seven.
At only 31, Erin Moriarty is already an industry veteran. She made her debut in One Life to Live at the age of 16, which led to prominent roles like Chelsea in The Watch, Audrey Hart in True Detective, Claire inCaptain Fantastic, and Alexis Dawson in Monster Party. Additionally, she is also set to appear in the upcoming movie, The Haunting in Wicker Park.
Chace Crawford as The Deep
The Deep’s character arc has been a roller coaster throughout the series. He was a textbook villain, using his power and influence to bid for evil. But after he becomes exposed on live TV, he is demoted from The Seven and goes through a redemption arc, only to end up becoming a puppet to Homelander.
Born to a dermatologist father and a teacher mother, Chase was fortunate to work alongside Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz (What to Expect When You’re Expecting) during his early acting years. During his nearly two-decade career, the 40-year-old has been a part of over 30 movies and TV shows. Some of his notable credits include Gossip Girl, Mountain Men, Gen V, and Inheritance.
