Most Hated Anime Characters: Fans Loathe Them Forever

Most Hated Anime Characters

If you are an avid fan of anime series, you may often find yourself trying to connect with the protagonist. While the heroes inspire us and the villains make us rage, there exist some poorly written characters that we absolutely loathe forever.

Due to their annoying nature, there will be little room for their character progression, unlike the antisocial anime characters. For anime fans, this could be a good reason not to continue watching the show further. We might have to follow a different storyline, or worse, skip the whole series.

Here are the most hated anime characters ever, from despicable villains like Shou Tucker to annoying ones fans love to rage about.

Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Shou Tucker is often regarded as the most hated anime character ever to exist in the anime franchise. That is because he represents a moral failure driven by cowardice and selfishness, rather than by strength or conviction.

To begin with, Shou displays a shocking lack of accountability. He cleverly hides behind a carefully crafted facade, presenting himself as soft-spoken, gentle, and intellectual, while using politeness to disguise his manipulative tendencies. When faced with the pressure to maintain his status as a State Alchemist, he chooses the easiest route for himself instead of accepting the consequences of his failures.

Rather than growing, adapting, or admitting defeat, he sacrifices what should matter most to him, even his wife and daughter. At the end, Shou’s loyalty extends only to himself.

Makoto Itou (School Days)

Makoto Itou is the loathsome character of the School Days anime franchise whose personality is genuinely questionable. Even though he had a perfect girlfriend, Kotonoha Katsura, he cheated on her with Sekai Saionji.

He lies and deceives Sekai just to make love to her. His character development gets even worse when he ignores both Kotonoha and Sekai and pursues every girl interested in him.

A perfect example of his morally degraded nature is shown when all his lovers ditch him after he ignores Sekai’s possible pregnancy. Eventually, Kotonoha eliminates him after he dumps Sekai and tries to go back to her.

Keyaru (Redo Of Healer)

Keyaru is a sadistic, violent, cold-hearted person who lives to avenge his abusers. His nature developed after being betrayed, imprisoned, and ravaged by the hands of his allies.

With his healing powers, he turns the princess of Jioral Kingdom, Flare, and her younger sister Norn into his servants. Moreover, he turned Setsuna and Kureha, who had nothing to do with his revenge, into his slaves.

His motive is questionable, and so is his brutal act of revenge. To sum it up, Keyaru is one of the most morally flawed characters ever to exist in an anime series.

Yukiteru Amano (Mirai Nikki)

Yukiteru is a coward with a worse nature. There is little to no room at all for his character development, as he often acts childishly.

Due to his crybaby personality, he often relies on Yuno for protection. If you have high expectations of his character, you might feel disappointed as he has a severe mental imbalance. He completely breaks down on little things.

After his parents’ death, Yukiteru desires to be a god, wanting to revive his parents. He even eliminates his friends due to Yuno’s deception, simply because he believes he can bring them back after becoming a god.

Spandam (One Piece)

Spandam stands out as a deeply corrupt and power-hungry agent of CP9, infamous for his appalling treatment of Nico Robin. His ruthless behavior and complete lack of empathy have earned him a reputation as one of the worst villains of One Piece.

Despite his high status, he is usually incompetent, short-tempered, and repeatedly involved in cruel schemes that often backfire on him. He is obsessively devoted to the notion of Absolute Justice, driven by an inflated ego that craves fame and validation as a so-called hero.

Although he often resorts to cowardice, Spandam occasionally reveals surprising strength when faced with adversity. Yet, his self-assuredness far surpasses his actual capabilities, and he routinely crumbles when confronted with genuine pressure or danger.

Malty Melromarc (The Rising of The Shield Hero)

Malty from The Rising of the Shield Hero serves as the series’ primary antagonist. She skillfully masks her cruel and manipulative nature behind a facade of beauty and kindness.

Cold and calculating, she prefers to operate from the shadows, taking pleasure in the suffering of others, just like she did with Naofumi at the beginning of the series. Her gentle personality is nothing more than an act used to deceive and control those around her.

At her core, Malty embodies narcissism, selfishness, and opportunism, using and discarding people solely for her own advantage. She often behaves cowardly or pretends to be absent-minded, and, worst of all, she is fully aware of her actions and consequences.

Rachel (The Tower of God)

In Tower of God, Rachel stands out as the main antagonist, betraying Bam, the protagonist, in her relentless pursuit of selfish ambitions.

In terms of personality, she presents herself as a tomboy who enjoys playing pranks on others. Despite her claims of being ordinary and unattractive, it is her manipulative tendencies that truly make her widely disliked.

Rachel firmly believes that everything she does is justified. Her goal is to reach the top at any cost, and she refuses to acknowledge her flaws or take responsibility for her wrongdoings.

Nobuyuki Sugo (Sword Art Online)

Also known as Oberon, Sugo is a detestable antagonist whose vile behavior towards the female has rightfully earned him the ire and disdain of many anime fans. This is the same anime where Kirito is considered one of the overpowered protagonists.

Obsessed with attaining godlike control over both humans and digital beings, Sugo pursues his ambitions without regard for morality or consequences. Sugou often hides behind a polite facade, but his true depravity is revealed through acts like his attempted assault on Asuna, solidifying his status as a hated villain.

Ultimately, beneath his threatening facade lies a cowardly nature, as he scurries away when confronted with real danger or the threat of defeat. Despite his threatening image, he is a coward and does not hesitate to flee when faced with real danger.

Minoru Mineta (My Hero Academia)

Minoru Mineta is widely regarded as one of the most loathed characters in “My Hero Academia” due to his repeated harassment of female classmates. Although his antics are often seen as comic relief, the reality is that it creates a deeply uncomfortable atmosphere.

His behavior is not just annoying; it’s explicitly loud and offensive, consistently seeking the attention of others in disruptive ways. He also misuses his Quirk in ways that are both troubling and inappropriate, further cementing his negative image.

Additionally, Minoru’s crude comments towards female characters amplify the discomfort he causes, making him a character that many fans struggle to appreciate.

Shinji Mato (Fate Stay Night)

Shinji Mato from Fate Stay Night stands out as one of the sinister characters throughout the Fate series. His cowardice, selfishness, and abusive nature leave a lasting negative impression.

Notably, he also commits the abhorrent act of assaulting his adoptive sister, Sakura Mato, demonstrating a pattern of manipulation and cruelty toward her and other characters. His demeanor is not only irritating but also loud and abusive, consistently seeking to draw attention to himself in disruptive ways.

Kazuya Kinoshita (Rent-A-Girlfriend)

Kazuya Kinoshita, the main character of Rent-A-Girlfriend, is annoying, and his actions make no sense. He is indecisive and often lies to get himself out of trouble. Although a kind-hearted person, his low self-esteem makes it very hard to genuinely root for him.

Most of the time, Kazuya spends money on a rental girlfriend, and even on a date, he shouts publicly, embarrassing himself and his surroundings. These are just the beginning of his annoying traits.

Even though his ex-girlfriend Mami Nanami wanted to patch things up, he ignored her, chasing after a rental girlfriend. Due to the lack of character progression, Kazuya is one of the hated characters among anime fans.

Natsuki Subaru (Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World)

Before you burn the bridges, Subaru from the Re: Zero franchise repeats the same mistake he made without learning anything. He is not as bad as other anime characters, but due to his annoying traits, his character development becomes unbearable.

He is arrogant, selfish, and a coward, and due to his stupid pride, he gets beaten a lot. Despite his failure, he succeeds at the end in the most idiotic way possible.

Some people hate Subaru for the sole reason that he rejected the best possible girl for the series Rem, choosing to pursue Emilia.
