His wife, Mundy, is an award-winning American journalist and author. She is a former staff writer for the Washington Post and a best-selling author of the book Michelle: A Biography.

She has written in numerous publications, including The Guardian, Atlantic, New York Post, and Washington Post. In addition, she has appeared in several TV shows like CBS This Morning, The Today Show, and Good Morning America.

Her other notable author work includes Code Girls, The Richer Sex, and Everything Conceivable. She also worked as a senior Schwartz fellow at the New America Foundation.

His Second Marriage To Liza Mundy

Bill Nye was married for the second time to his wife, Liza Mundy, in late May 2022. A month after their marriage, People.com exclusively revealed the story. The Emmy-winning television host tied the knot with Liza Mundy at the Castle Building’s Haupt Garden at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Robert Picardo served as the officiant.

Pete Souza, the American photojournalist, also confirmed the news on his Instagram, writing, “Yes, it’s true, I’m now officially a wedding photographer.⁣ But I buried the lede: congrats to Bill Nye and Liza Mundy.⁣”

Nye and his wife Mundy wrote their own vows, which were “equal parts moving and comical.” Among the wedding attendees were Mundy’s daughter, Anna, and Nye’s brother Darby. At the reception, the bride and groom danced to Sam Cooke’s What a Wonderful World.

On their big day, the Science Guy, Nye, honored his father, Edwin D. Nye, by wearing his cufflinks. His father, Edwin, passed away at 105 on May 3, 1917.

Nye didn’t miss wearing his signature bowtie with a black tuxedo and an orange boutonniere. Meanwhile, his wife, Mundy, donned a satin sleeveless gown, as captured by longtime White House photographer Souza.

The Beginning Of Their Relationship

Bill Nye and Liza Mundy’s relationship started somewhere around 2017.

It was Nye who took the step to begin the relationship with her. After Mundy mentioned Nye’s mother in her book Code Girls, he reportedly reached out via email. Soon, they sparked romance, starting a new chapter in their relationship.

They keep their relationship private but have made a few appearances on the red carpet. The pair appeared together during the premiere of The End Is Nye in June 2022. Back in March 2022, Mundy debuted with Nye on the red carpet at the Captain Planet Foundation 30th Anniversary Gala.

His First Marriage Was Annulled

Prior to Mundy, Nye was married to musician Blair Tindall from February 3 to March 28, 2006. Their relationship was annulled just seven weeks after their marriage license was declared invalid.

At the time, he revealed his failed marriage with CBS special reports, The Early Show, host Hattie Kauffman. According to CBS News, he was never married to Blair. The guest actor of The Big Bang Theory added:

“We got a letter from the State of California, with the great seal affixed, that we were never married. So shortly afterwards we both agreed it was not a good idea.”

A year later, after their marriage annulment, Nye filed a restraining order against Tindall in November 2007. He received a temporary restraining order, under which Tindall was required to stay 100 yards away from him.

As per TMZ, he alleged that she broke into his Studio City home with the intention of damaging his garden with pesticides. She later admitted to harming the plants but strongly denied being a threat to her former hubby.

The duo later settled the beef and were even spotted together at a couple of events. Unfortunately, Nye’s first wife, Tindall, passed away from heart disease at the age of 63 on April 12, 2023.
